Former Senator Jonathan Paton:
I want to tell you about my friend, Kirk Adams. While in the legislature, Kirk and I worked to protect children by fixing some of the flaws contained in the Child Protective Services system. We pushed our Democrat Governor, Janet Napolitano, to provide greater transparency and public access to CPS. Of course, she and the bureaucrats resisted. Surprisingly, so did many lawmakers.
During this process I learned a great deal about Kirk’s character and determination. Kirk was not afraid to push the Governor and the bureaucrats to do what was right for our citizens. He was relentless in his efforts. Kirk believes, as do I, that sunlight is the best disinfectant for an inefficient and corrupt government.
Kirk’s strong leadership helped pass important reforms that protect children. In fact, two years ago, an Arizona news station said the law had already been credited with saving at least 33 missing children in Tucson alone! Since then it has saved many more.
Based on our efforts to create more transparency in CPS, the Arizona Newspaper Association awarded Kirk and I the “Freedom of Information Award.” Through his actions, Kirk has shown that he is serious about transparency, reform, and protecting our citizens. As a former colleague and friend of Kirk’s, I can assure you he is someone you can trust.
